Each year, Catholic Relief Services offers Catholics throughout the world with an opportunity to participate in efforts to help the poor through the use of Lenten Rice Bowls.  75 percent of the money raised provides lifesaving aid to those in need overseas, and 25 percent stays in the diocese for local programs to ease hunger and homelessness.

Each year, CRS publishes a calendar which highlights work being done as a result of the donations received from Rice Bowl collections.  This year's calendar features work being done in Niger, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lebanon, and in the Albany Diocese.  Students from St. Thomas the Apostle School are pictured along with a story about Catholic Charities Garden on Feedin'.  During last year's Day of Service, students from Mrs. Mattis' First Grade class planted seeds.  When spring finally arrived, they took the seedlings to the garden to plant.  The garden provided fresh fruits and vegetables for a soup kitchen.
