From the Principal's Desk

Dear Friends of St. Thomas the Apostle School,

We begin this year with the theme "A Year of Faith."  This Year of Faith runs from October 11, 2012, through November 24, 2013.  Throughout this year, we commit ourselves to learning more about what our faith teaches us, who we are to be as the living Church, and how we can pass on this learning to our children.  Each month, as part of the Year of Faith, we will learn about the Saints of our faith, ordinary people who did extraordinary things with the love of God.

I find it fitting that this year's theme is about faith.  As we enter the building these days, we are all amazed at the transformation of the space that once was our library and computer room.  It is coming together, taking on a new shape and identity.  But we can see what it will become.  We can see that when the work is complete, we will have something beautiful and useful.  We will have something that will benefit many for years to come.

The same is true of our faith.  This is a gift from the Holy Spirit.  It is not complete without our acceptance of this gift.  We must continue to work on it, to see it for what it can become, knowing that what may appear empty today will be fulfilled tomorrow.  Our faith is ours to care for and nurture.  We do this through prayer, in service to others, in building community, and in so many other ways when we connect with God.

Perhaps you see your faith as a work in progress.  The old joke is that all our faith is a work in progress, that's why we call ourselves "practicing Catholics."  We have not yet perfected our relationship with God.   We still must practice...

Start small in your practice, just like we start small in Preschool and Kindergarten. Know that with some work and nurturing, your faith will be something new and different.  It will be something that will benefit so many for years to come.  This is our Year of Faith.  Faith is a wonderful gift.

Peace,
Thomas J. Kane
