Learn About 8th Grade's 1st Day in DC 5/19/2015
May 19, 2015: Day 1
Basilica:
The Basilica is beautiful and there are many wonderful mosaics. Emiko
The Basilica is the 8th largest basilica in the world. Andrew
- What we liked: How beautiful the Mosaics were - Jake
- What was our favorite thing? The Jesus Mosaic was my favorite thing because the size of it amazed me. - Salah
- Why was it important to visit the Basilica? To observe and learn about the different works of art. The displays were amazing and worth it! - Patrick
Holocaust Memorial:
We read Daniels story. We saw how he went from his wealthy house in Germany to the Jewish Ghetto. Emiko
- Thoughts: Sad; depressing, but informing. Interesting to see what is war really like. -Julia R

- Why was it important to visit the Holocaust Museum? To see that this actually happened and to prevent it from happening again. - Tess B.
Jefferson Memorial:
- The memorial has a statue of Thomas Jefferson that is 19 ft tall. Jenna
Washington Memorial:
- Thoughts: it was very cool to see the difference in the colors of bricks. It was very tall and we took lots of pictures - Julie B.
- What we learned: it is 555 ft tall and 5.5 in. - Patrick & Gabby
- Why was it important to visit the Washington Memorial: I didn't know that it was originally for George Washington’s tomb. Rachael
FDR Memorial:
- This memorial really moved me; it truly showed me how hard this president worked to improve our country. Fiona
- The memorial has 4 sections for the 4 terms of Presidency. Jimmy
The white house:
I loved that there were barriers that looked like pots filled with flowers. Emily
- Thoughts: was very far away but still beautiful despite the snipers - Jake
- What we learned: There are barriers used to keep onlookers distance from the White House. - Patrick
Ronald Reagan Trade Center
- Thoughts: The food was great. Jake
