Fall Festival is a Success!

With a watchful eye on the forecasted rain, the St. Thomas the Apostle community celebrated the start of a new season with the First Annual Fall Festival On Sunday, September 21st

Co-chairs, Jennifer Murphy and Carmel Foltan lead a team of twenty-four very dedicated committee chairs throughout the planning process which began last spring.  All of their hard work paid off when the community building event began at noon on Sunday with a blue sky and an abundance of sunshine.

“I never expected all that this event actually offered!” exclaimed long-time parishioner, Rose Newell.  Rose spent months helping to spread the word about the Fall Festival.  She distributed nearly 600 flyers to members of the community leading up to the event, volunteered at the event, and truly served as an ambassador as she breezed through the children’s games and activities as well as the entertainment areas to say hello and thank parishioners and non-parishioners alike for attending.  For Rose and the hundreds of other kids and adults, the event was a celebration of community.  St. Thomas the Apostle School Principal, Tom Kane remarked that “I know that friendships have been begun and were strengthened.  A Catholic/Christian community thrives on friendships and positive relationships with one another.  It's the glue that keeps us together and strong.”

The celebration included the smells and tastes of chicken barbecue, sausage & peppers, chicken wings, apple cider donuts, warm chocolate chip cookies, and cotton candy of course!  Guests were treated to performances by the Diocesan Youth Choir, 2 Irish step dance teams, and 5 bands including Raisinhead and Joey Pucci & the American Longboards.  For the young at heart, the day couldn’t have been any better with a giant inflatable slide, an inflatable pirate ship, and an inflatable obstacle course as well as a rock climbing wall, pony rides, a wild bird exhibit, games galore and the ever popular dunking booth.  Principal, Tom Kane, estimates that he was dunked nearly 100 times!

Sincere thanks to the volunteers who made this event possible, to the event sponsors & advertisers, and to all who supported this event through their attendance!
