Art |
Art education is integrated into all subjects. Each teacher is
responsible for teaching the methods and theories of art. The
students employ a multitude of media as a means for expressing
themselves, and students regularly exhibit their artwork in the
classrooms.
|
Computer Technology |
Each week, students in Pre-K 3 through Grade 8 receive computer
instruction in our state of the art computer lab. In addition,
students have access to computers and the Internet in the library
and in all the classrooms.
|
Mathematics |
Mathematics instruction is taught sequentially from Grade 1 through
Grade 8. Accelerated mathematics instruction begins in Grade 7.
Selected students in Grade 8 take the first two semesters of Math A
at St. Thomas the Apostle School. This allows the students to enter
high school having completed one year of high school mathematics.
|
Music |
Students in Pre-K 3 through Grade 8 receive music instruction at
least once a week. Music theory, instruments, along with liturgical
music, is covered as part of the curriculum.
|
Physical Education |
Students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 receive physical education
instruction two times per week. Instructors teach concepts such as
sportsmanship, respect, healthy competition, dedication and
teamwork. Each spring the instructors evaluate the students in
Grades 1-8 using the Presidential Physical Fitness Exam. Students
must wear the proper gym uniform during class.
|
Reading/Liturature |
Students begin the practice of reading in Kindergarten. In Grades
1-8, the students learn a variety of reading techniques and skills
through the study of phonics and quality literature. In the lower
grades, the teachers divide the students into small groups for
reading instruction.
|
Foreign Language |
Foreign language study begins in Grade 6. In Grades 6-8, students
receive foreign language instruction five days per week. Currently,
Spanish is the foreign language taught to the students.
|
History |
Beginning in kindergarten, our children learn about their world and
society. Through the study of family, community, state, country and
world, children develop an understanding of their own history and
the development of civilization. Using historical accounts and
documents, children apply their knowledge by completing long-term
research projects.
|
Science |
Through experimentation and hands on learning, students in Grades
1-8 are encouraged to explore the wonders of our natural world
through the study of science. Physical sciences and life sciences
serve as the foundation for the students' experimentation and
projects involving contemporary issues.
