About St. Thomas
|
Our History |
Saint Thomas the Apostle school welcomed its first students in
September of 1956. Five Sisters of the Holy Names taught
Kindergarten through grade five in temporary classrooms in the
basement of the "old" church and a neighboring home until the
school building was completed in January of 1957.
In 1963, the "new" Church was built. As the first students
grew, so did the school. The children who joined kindergarten
in 1957 were the first to complete nine years at the school,
graduating in 1966.
Through the years, our original school building was updated
with new lights, new windows and new furniture. In 1996, the
parish established a needs assessment committee and conducted a
pledge drive to raise funds for our ambitious building and
renovation program for all the parish facilities.
On March 3, 1997 ground was broken for the first part of the
project, the school. The entire school was renovated, a
kitchen and cafetorium, a computer lab, an addition to the
library, three classrooms and storage areas were added. Shortly
after the students returned in September 1997, Bishop Howard J.
Hubbard blessed the "new School".
While we are proud of our building, we are prouder still of the
close to 3000 students who have filled the classrooms for the
past 49 years. We are proud of the dedicated faculty: the
clergy, sisters, religious, and laymen and laywomen who have
imparted a Catholic faith centered and outstanding academic
preparation to our students.
Currently, Saint Thomas the Apostle School is Pre-K through 8th
grade.
